The Pitsco Education Missions Classroom
A primary goal of the Missions system is to overcome the obstacles of teaching elementary science. Missions were created to be convenient to use and easy to implement while affording the teacher more time with students.
An overview of key features shows how Missions meet the daily needs of teachers.
Missions Teacher Orientation prepares the teacher to coordinate, manage, and teach his or her new curriculum. This orientation is administered by a certified Missions system specialist at Pitsco Education’ s teacher-training facility.
Missions teachers discover the benefits of a “systems” approach to teaching and learning. A student-centered curriculum frees the teacher to interact with small groups and know other students are engaged and on task. Preparation time is reduced, and classroom management features are incorporated into the system.
Classroom management is written into the Missions curriculum. Record keeping, assessment, and other management responsibilities are integrated into the system to ensure a smoothly running classroom.
As with all Pitsco Education products, customer service is available to any Missions teacher for the life of the Missions.
Finally, Missions was designed to be easy to implement as a science-based solution. Missions can be used as a full science curriculum, as a hands-on component for an existing science class, or even as a content-rich after-school program.
How Can I Use Missions?
The Missions system is a versatile science solution that can be implemented to meet the needs of your school. Most Missions classrooms fit into one of three categories:
- Science lab – A complete science curriculum delivered through Missions. Students complete Missions and then rotate to new Missions with new team members.
- Science center – This complements an existing science curriculum with hands-on activities and additional content. It can also be used to supplement a curriculum to meet specific educational standards.
- After-school program – As after-school programs continue to grow, so does the need for flexible, mobile, content-rich activities. Missions are the perfect fit for these programs.
