Overview

Real-world Career Experience

CareerPorts are high school curricula in which students learn and apply core curriculum content within a possible career pathway. Each CareerPort is a nine-week, hands-on immersion into a nationally recognized career cluster area. These self-paced, student-directed curricula are delivered online, making them accessible to students from anywhere the Internet is available.

Looking Forward, Moving Ahead

Each CareerPort is a virtual internship, empowering students to become independent learners while gaining real-world career experiences. During this “internship,” students learn and apply core content knowledge in the context of that CareerPort’s career area. By completing a series of assignments, students have the same experiences as their real-world counterparts – including the hands-on tasks and experiments, research, and even the timelines required to be successful in the CareerPort’s related field.

CareerPorts’ Core Content

Math – Students learn and apply career-related math concepts in areas like finance and engineering.
Science – Students learn and apply career-related science concepts in areas like physical science and health.
Language Arts – Students read, write, complete research, and make presentations during their assignments.
Technology – Students use career-related manipulatives, equipment, and software to complete assignments.

Aligning with Career Clusters

CareerPorts curricula is closely aligned with the 16 career clusters originally outlined by the Department of Education. Career clusters group 21st-century employment opportunities according to their commonalities, creating clear pathways for students, schools, parents, and businesses to consider when organizing career-related instructions and core content learning programs.* As a result, CareerPorts content falls within the career pathways being used in most career-prep, career-tech, or career academy programs.
